What is how to inject zepbound?

Zepbound is an injectable medication, and it's crucial to follow your healthcare provider's instructions precisely for safe and effective use. Here's some general information; always refer to your prescription information and doctor's guidance.

  • Injection Site Selection: Inject Zepbound under the skin (subcutaneously) in your abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Rotate injection sites each week to avoid lipohypertrophy (lumps under the skin). Do not inject into areas that are bruised, tender, hard, or scarred.

  • Preparation: Before injecting, remove a new pen from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes. Do not warm it in a microwave or hot water. Inspect the pen visually. The liquid should be clear and colorless to slightly yellow. Do not use if it is cloudy, discolored, or contains particles.

  • Injection Procedure:

    • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
    • Clean the injection site with an alcohol swab and let it dry completely.
    • Remove the pen cap.
    • Place the pen firmly against the skin at the chosen injection site at a 90-degree angle.
    • Press and hold the injection button until you hear a click and see the dose counter return to zero.
    • Hold the pen in place for a few seconds after the click to ensure the full dose is delivered.
    • Carefully remove the pen. A small drop of blood may appear; if so, gently press the injection site with a cotton ball or gauze. Do not rub the area.
  • Pen Disposal: Dispose of used pens immediately in an approved sharps container. Do not reuse needles or pens. Check local regulations for proper disposal procedures.

  • Dosage and Timing: Administer Zepbound once weekly, on the same day each week, at any time of day. If you miss a dose, administer it as soon as possible within 4 days (96 hours) of the missed dose. If more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose and administer your next dose on the regularly scheduled day. Do not administer two doses within 3 days of each other. The dosage will be determined by your doctor.

  • Important Considerations:

    • Never share your Zepbound pen with anyone else, even if they have the same medical condition.
    • Store Zepbound pens in the refrigerator until ready to use.
    • Keep Zepbound out of reach of children.
    • Report any side effects or concerns to your healthcare provider promptly. Potential side effects may include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, and abdominal pain.
  • Training: Your healthcare provider should provide thorough training on how to properly inject Zepbound before you administer your first dose. Ask questions if you are unsure about any step.
